KAUKAUNA — The reigning two-time Division 1 state champion Galloping Ghosts’ softball team is heading into a new season with high expectations.

With a group of key players returning from last year’s state title team and new talent ready to step up, Kaukauna is No. 31 nationally in the latest 2023 Extra Elite 80 High School Softball rankings.

Kaukauna completed an undefeated season June 11 with a dominating 11-3 win over Sun Prairie to claim its second state title in a row.

The Galloping Ghosts also captured the gold trophy in each of its previous state appearances including 2010, 2017 and 2021.

Kaukauna returns several important players for the state championship team, including sophomore pitcher and conference player of the year Karly Meredith, senior outfield Kally Meredith, a Florida International commit, and senior infielder Paige Miller, who will attend the University of Wisconsin next year and play for the Badgers.

Other key contributors include senior Lilly Roehrig, senior Hailie Peters, senior Ava Bloch and junior Taryn Christopher.

The Ghosts began practice March 13 and will open the season April 4 in a Fox Valley Association conference game against Appleton West.
