KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna Ghosts Head Football Coach Matt Binsfeld has been recognized by the US Marine Corps for outstanding leadership and awarded the prestigous 2023 Semper Fi Coach Award.

The Semper Fi Coach Award recognizes high school football coaches who exemplify the Marine Corps motto: Semper Fidelis – always faithful. It is earned by coaches who model the leadership values of honor, courage and commitment.

The award was announced Tuesday.

Binsfeld, a Kaukauna High School graduate, returned to coach the Ghosts in 2016. He led the Wrightstown High School football team to the Division 4 state championship in 2011.

This past season, the Ghosts fell one game short of a trip to state after falling to West De Pere in the Division 2 semifinal game.

In the first three weeks of playoffs, Kaukauna played on the road, knocking off the 2, 3 and 5 seeds on its side of the bracket.
