KAUKAUNA — A structural engineer was scheduled to be on scene Monday morning to assess the damage to a commercial building on Kaukauna’s north side where a facade collapsed Sunday evening.
The Kaukauna Fire Department responded this evening at 5:54 P.M. to the Galleria of Tile at 319 Lawe Street for the report of a building collapse.
Firefighters found that part of the front brick façade of the two-story commercial building had fallen off the building, landing onto the roadway blocking north and south bound traffic.
Firefighters assisted the upstairs tenant from the building and worked with the American Red Cross to find the tenant housing.
No injuries or damage to other property was found at the scene.
It was not immediately clear why the brick façade fell from the building, but the age of the building is a factor, according to Assistant Chief Building Inspector Cody Foss.
Because of the danger of the remaining brick façade falling off the building, all north and south bound lanes of Lawe Street between the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Talyor Street remain closed until further notice.
Drivers are asked to find an alternative route.
