FREEDOM — Two children had minor injuries, but four others were seriously hurt Saturday evening in a three-vehicle crash in the town of Freedom.
According to a news release, deputies with the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office were called out about 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of County Highway S and County Highway C in the town of Freedom for a multi-vehicle accident with injuries.
Investigators say an SUV was stopped at the stop sign on C. As the SUV drove south through the intersection, authorities say a pickup truck traveling west on S, failed to stop at the designated stop sign and struck the SUV.
After striking the SUV, the pickup truck continued through the front yard of a home and came to rest against a house.
The impact from the crash resulted in the SUV striking a third vehicle which was traveling east on S approaching the intersection.
As a result of the crash, six people were taken to a local hospital with injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 60-year-old man, along with a 64-year-old woman who was a passenger, both from the Town of Center, were taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old woman from Larsen, was taken to a local hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance with serious injuries.
The passenger of the SUV, a 39-year-old man from Larsen, was taken to a local hospital by ThedaStar Medical Helicopter with critical injuries.
Additionally, a 1-year-old child and a 3-year-old child from the SUV were taken via Gold Cross Ambulance to a local hospital with apparent minor injuries.
The third vehicle was being driven by a seventh person involved, a 36-year-old man from Appleton who was treated and released on scene for minor injuries.
At this time, the crash investigation is ongoing. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours and has since reopened.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Freedom Fire Department, Freedom First Responders, Center Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, ThedaStar Medical Helicopter and the Outagamie County Highway Department.
