KAUKAUNA — Back to school season is a major milestone in anyone’s life, but for one Kaukauna man it’s a tradition decades in the making.

Jerry Brien’s “first day of school” photo will be hard to beat.

Brien of Kaukauna has added up all his first days of school as an educator, substitute teacher, college, high school and elementary school student and says this year marks his 70th “first day of school”

In a social media post, Brien said he is starting my 53rd year in education all in Kaukauna, “thirty-five teaching full time and 18 subbing. At the end of the month I will be back in speech and language for 12 weeks at Park Community Charter School. If I add in elementary, high school, and college this is my 70th first day of school.”

Brien also is known for his involvement in food and school supply drives, community theater, coaching cross country and other community events.
