APPLETON — Drivers who travel Wisconsin Highway 96 in Appleton should be aware of a full closure of at the railroad west of Badger Avenue will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026.

Work will include resurfacing the railroad crossing as part of the $7.37 million contract to improve two miles of Highway 96 (Wisconsin Ave) from Casaloma Drive to North Badger Avenue.

Traffic impacts

  • WIS 96 vehicle traffic will be closing from North Perkins to North Badger on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for approximately thirty days to replace the railroad crossing at WIS 96.
    o Detour: Utilize WIS 47 (Richmond St), WIS 125 (W College Ave), and County A (Lynndale Dr).

Pedestrian access

Railroad work will result in a full closure of the sidewalk at W Wisconsin Ave. near N Badger Ave from September 8 to September 12, 2026.

Valley Transit Route 12 will continue to operate and pedestrians will be able to use bus stops on both side of the closed sidewalk to get across the closed sidewalk.
