LITTLE CHUTE — Trishaw bike rides are being offered for free for Oct. 18, 2022 in Little Chute for those who are disabled or who need assistance in viewing the village park system.

Riders will tour Heesakker Park starting at the Garfield entrance and get a ride through the woods over the Pedestrian Canal Bridge and the new Nelson Family Heritage Crossing Bike/Pedestrian Bridge.

Trishaws are three-wheeled, peddled bikes driven by volunteers that can carry passengers on a leisurely ride.

Rides will last approximately 15 minutes. Participants will need to sign a waiver on site.

Tours begin at Heesakker Park – Garfield Avenue entrance Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those who want to participate are asked to register ahead of time by either emailing me at john@littlechutewi.org or calling 920-423-3868.

There are a limited number of spots available, and the event is geared to anyone in the area with disabilities or limited movement that would otherwise be unable to walk the trail system and view the new bridge, according to John McDonald, Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Director.

The rides are in partnership with the nonprofit, Cycling Without Age, which began in 2012 by Ole Kassow.

Kassow wanted to help the elders get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility.

The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents.

Today, volunteer pilots)sign up for bike rides with the elderly as often or as rarely as they want to. It’s all driven by people’s own motivation. As of 2021, more than 2,700 chapter locations around the world offered Cycling Without Age.
