KAUKAUNA — A resident is without a place to stay and is being helped by the Red Cross following an overnight fire at a home in Kaukauna.
According to a news release, the Kaukauna Fire Department responded at 10:19 p.m. Aug. 29 to a fire at a home at 1400 Sullivan Ave.
Initial reports indicated smoke and flames were visible on the back side of the residence.
When they arrived, firefighters first found the rear deck of the home fully engulfed in flames.
Fire had entered the residence through walk-out basement and main-floor windows and had extended into the attic through the eaves.
Fire crews conducted an aggressive attack and had the fire under control within 20 minutes
Crews remained on scene for an extended period to conduct overhaul and ventilation operations.
No one was injured and one resident was home at the time of the fire and got out safely.
Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at approximately $200,000.
The home sustained extensive fire, heat and smoke damage, resulting in one resident being displaced.
The Kaukauna Fire Department was assisted by the Combined Locks Fire Department, Kaukauna Police Department, Kaukauna Utilities, WE Energies, American Red Cross, and the Outagamie County VCR Team.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Kaukauna Fire Department reminds all residents to make sure their homes are equipped with working smoke detectors. Smoke detectors should be installed on every level of the home, outside sleeping areas, and inside bedrooms when possible. Residents are encouraged to test their smoke detectors regularly and replace batteries as needed. A working smoke detector provides an early warning that can families valuable time to safely escape a fire.
