CHILTON — The man convicted in connection with the death of another man nearly 40 years ago appeared in court today to face a new charge in the case.

John C. Andrews, 82, of Chilton was charged Friday in Calument County Circuit Court with concealing a corpse in connection with the killing of Starkie Swenson who disappeared in 1983, authorities said in a Thursday news conference.

He was released on a $10,000 signature bond and was ordered to not have any contact with the victims family members or go to High Cliff State Park.

The case has received renewed attention after hikers discovered Swenson’s body last September at High Cliff State Park.

Andrews was arrested Thursday morning in Chilton, according to the Calument County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrews was convicted in 1994 on a charge of Homicide by Negligent Use of a Vehicle and served 24 months in prison. Although Swenson’s body had not been found at the time, he had been legally declared dead.

Authorities believe Swenson was having an affair with Andrews’ ex-wife and was killed in what has been described as a love triangle in Neenah, according to Fox 11 TV.

“Certainly, when myself and investigators spoke to the family today, they were pleased to hear that there was some finality for them,” Calumet County District Attorney Nathan Haberman said at the news conference announcing the charges. “Obviously, they’re going through a tough time; they have been struggling for many years without knowing where their father had been.”
