MENASHA — A Kaukauna Utilities line crew joined nearly a dozen other mutual aid public power companies to help restore power in Menasha following the devastating tornado.
As of Thursday morning, more than 1,300 customers in Appleton and 1,000 in Menasha remain without power in the hardest hit areas.
The tornado EF-3 was first detected by radar at 11:56 a.m. and packed winds up to 140 mph and developed two miles west-northwest of Appleton and tracked south into Fox Crossing and Menasha with damage to homes, businesses, and downed power lines and trees.
The tornado tracked on the surface for for more than 12 miles and roughly 26 minutes.
The tornado dissipated over Lake Winnebago around 12:22 p.m.
