GREEN BAY — Kristin Schmalz Lyerly, a 1987 graduate of Kaukauna High School, confirmed on Friday that she is considering a possible run for House of Representatives.
Following a story in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal that the Democrat was considering a challenge to incumbent Republican Mike Gallagher, Lyerly shared the story to her Facebook page commenting, “I have been mulling over the possibilities…”
The race for Wisconsin’s 8th District seat in the House of Representatives already is in the national spotlight.
According to the Journal Sentinel, if Lyerly runs, it would raise the stakes for Gallagher who is considered a top-tier candidate to challenge Sen. Tammy Baldwin as Republicans hope to reclaim the Senate majority.
Lyerly has experience running a campaign in Northeast Wisconsin after running for state Assembly four years ago.
In that race, incumbent John Macco defeated Lyerly in the general election for District 88 on November 3, 2020.
Lyerly is an OB/gyn and family practice physician in Green Bay.
Lyerly was born in Kaukauna, obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1993, an M.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 2007, and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Wisconsin in 2009.
