BUCHANAN — No one was injured but a home sustained major damage Friday during a fire in the town of Buchanan.

Combined Locks Fire & Rescue, Buchanan Fire & Rescue and Harrison Fire Rescue were called out about 8:45 p.m. Friday to a residence on Fontana Way in the town Buchanan for a report of a possible chimney fire, according to a news release.

Initial reports from Outagamie County Dispatch indicated that all occupants had evacuated and were waiting outside by a neighbor.

When they arrived, deputies from Outagamie County Sheriffs Office and firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on the back of the home that extended up two stories from the basement.

The smoke was hot enough to melt siding on the opposite end of the house and was also seen coming from the eaves and peaks, which indicated the fire had spread to the attic.

Firefighters upgraded the call to a MABAS call, going up to the BOX alarm level. This brought in additional resources from other neighboring departments and an air trailer from Hortonville Fire.

Engine Company crews on scene quickly deployed multiple large diameter hand lines to the back of the residence and worked together to bring the fire under control.

Additional arriving engine crews were tasked with attic and garage space entry as well as main living space entry to bring the interior fires under control.

EMS from Combined Locks, Buchanan and Kimberly worked to establish a rehab area for firefighters to rest and rehydrate.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters worked together with the homeowner to remove some important possessions. Firefighters also worked to protect and cover property inside to prevent further damage by water.

After approximately 3 hours on scene, all apparatus were released from the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and a damage estimate is not readily available.

Chiefs and Fire Investigators from Combined Locks and Buchanan will continue working with the homeowner to establish cause and origin.

Agencies involved were: Combined Locks Fire & Rescue, Town of Buchanan Fire and Rescue, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, Outagamie County Communications Center – 911, Harrison Fire Department, Kimberly Fire/Rescue, Hortonville-Hortonia Fire District, Little Chute Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Seymour Firefighters and WE Energies.
