WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Kaukauna Ghosts girls cross country team is hoping to repeat as regular season state champions when they take to the course Saturday in the WIAA state meet.

A year ago, Kaukauna won the Division 1 State championship, compiling a five-runner score of 79. Whitefish Bay placed second with a score of 86.

There are nine teams that placed in the top 10 in either last year’s fall championships or during last spring’s alternate season, including the champion of each season.

Kaukauna was the champion of the traditional season. The Galloping Ghosts return to the field with four runners back from last year’s team.

Kaukauna’s girls’ team qualifiers are Sydney Fauske, Alexa Kinas, McKenna Lowe, Megan Kennedy, Lauren Pruno, Hailie Peters and Kyla Laabs.

Junior Aaron Schimke of Kaukauna qualified for the boys race.
