KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna Area School District Supt. Mark Duerwaechter will retire in June, at the end of the current school year.
Duerwaechter’s retirement was approved by the board of education following a closed session Monday, the district confirmed.
He arrived in 2012 after working in Neenah, and has overseen significant challenges and changes.
That includes the past two school years, where the district grappled with the best way to manage the COVID-19 pandemic and its affect on the schools.
“Serving Kaukauna Area School District for the past ten years has been the greatest professional privilege and blessing of my 34-year career,” Duerwaechter wrote in his letter to the board.
Duerwaechter pointed to student achievement and the ability to recruit and retain high quality staff among his accomplishments.
He also wrote that the District Vision and Master Planning Committees led to significant improvements in infrastructure in the district.
“As of today, we can confidentlty note that the district is in a very sound financial positon and ready for an unpredicitable future,” Duerwaechter said.
Duerwaechter’s last day will be June 30, 2022.
