LITTLE CHUTE — When firefighters arrived on the scene Friday evening for a report of a car that hit a deer, they found something quite different and certainly more unpleasant.

When firefighters arrived just before 7 p.m., they found that a vehicle carrying animal carcasses, possibly to a local rendering plant, dropped part of its load on northbound I-41 near the county landfill.

Emergency crews had to close down the highway for roughly four hours while they cleaned up the mess, which involved removing the carcasses then covering the roadway with a drying compound.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Outagamie County Sheriffs Department.

In a news release, LCFD thanked the Vanden Broek Fire Department, Outagamie Sheriffs Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Outagamie County Highway Department, Outagamie County Emergency Management, Country Visions Co-op and Valley Environmental Response for their technical assistance.
