KAUKAUNA — Spotted often, but never captured in the five months since he’s been away from home, Dusty the dog has been reunited with his family after being recovered in Kaukauna.

The Kaukauna Police Department shared the news Wednesday on social media

Dusty originally escaped from his home 30 miles away in the Town of Pipe along the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago on Thanksgiving Day 2025.

Since then, he made his way to Kaukauna, braving the winter blizzards and spring monsoons.

During this time he was spotted numerous times by both officers and community members, however he was never able to be captured.

Thanks to the assistance of The Hope Highway, a trap was set, and Dusty was finally safely captured.

Even better—because Dusty was microchipped, he was quickly identified and reunited with his family.

Police are thanking the many concerned citizens who called in sightings and helped keep an eye out for Dusty over the past several months.

They say they’re grateful to everyone who played a role in bringing Dusty home where he belongs.
