Nearly 10 years ago, the Friends of Mosquito Hill launched a fundraising campaign to update and refresh the nature center’s educational displays. Many of the original exhibits had been donated or built by volunteers over the past 50 years. While well loved, they were ready for an upgrade.
With support from Outagamie County and the Friends of Mosquito Hill, the project moved forward. The exhibit wing was renovated into an open floor plan to make room for professionally designed exhibits inspired by the natural features of Mosquito Hill.
New displays highlight:
- The glacial history that formed the hill
- Important geological features
- Pollinators and honey bee hives
- Bird species identification and tracking
- Prairie and lowland forest dioramas
- A 350-gallon fish tank featuring species native to the Wolf River
“We are excited to open our new exhibits to the public. The staff at Mosquito Hill Nature Center has put a great deal of work into developing the content and organizing artifacts and specimens. These new displays are a wonderful addition to the nature center and will help us continue our mission of fostering understanding, appreciation, and sound stewardship of the natural world for people of all ages,” said Adam Brandt, Environmental Education and Natural Resource Manager at Mosquito Hill Nature Center.
Community members are invited to stop by, tour the new space, and enjoy a weekend of learning and exploration.
