KAUKAUNA — The City of Kaukauna and Kaukauna Area School District will host a public information meeting Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 7 p.m.– 8 p.m. about the proposed entrance to the new Kaukauna Middle School from Wiscinsun Highway 55.

The meeting will take place at the Municipal Services Building at 144 W. 2nd St. In Kaukauna in the Council Chambers.

There will be a brief presentation followed by a Q/A session with city staff, KASD staff and consultants.

In the most recent update posted to the district website, planners are looking at two entrances to the school.

One entrance would be off Loderbauer around the KHS baseball and softball diamonds and then across Konkapot Creek with a bridge.

The second entrance has proven more challenging, but likely will be a roundabout at Highway 55 and Morningside Drive, according to the district.

District planners continue to examine other options, but have not found another feasible solution for a second access point from these other options:

  • Highway 55 and Ridgecrest, but the district does not own land at this intersection
  • Speedway Lane off KK, but the district does not own land at this point
  • CE, but the district does not own land at this point

A pedestrian tunnel at the same intersection to allow safe crossing under Highway 55.

The school is part of the $198 million referendum that was approved by voters in November to enable the district to:

  • Build a new, innovative middle school to replace River View, which the district says no longer adequately meets the needs of students.
  • Expand access to 4K and 5K programs at Victor Haen Elementary School, providing more opportunities for the youngest learners.
  • Renovate key areas at Park Community Charter School, including the main office and library, to better serve students and staff.
  • Enhance safety and security across all district schools and address high-priority maintenance needs
