KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna High School’s head softball coach, along with one of his top assistants, announced Thursday they were stepping down.
Tim Roehrig, who led the Ghosts to six state titles, including four of the past five years, leaves the program after 27 years at the helm. Roehrig cited ongoing health concerns in his decision.
Roehrig was inducted into the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2024.
Bill Huss, one of Roehrig’s top assistants, also announced he was stepping down after 17 seasons.
Roehrig is now the second head coach to announce they were stepping down from head coaching positions that have made the Ghosts a prep sports powerhouse in the state of Wisconsin.
Last May, Kaukauna’s head boys’ basketball coach, Mike Schalow, retired after 30 seasons and two WIAA state basketball championships.
Roehrig and Huss released the following statements, shared on the Kaukauna Ghosts Fastpitch Facebook page:
“After considerable reflection, I have decided to step down from my position as Head Coach of the Kaukauna High School Fastpitch Softball program. This decision has not come easily, but ongoing health concerns have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue giving the program the time, energy, and focus it deserves.
I want to express my deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this role for the past 27 years. Coaching at Kaukauna has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Together, we’ve built something extraordinary—not just a winning team, but a culture of excellence, resilience, and pride that extends far beyond the softball field.
When I began, there were 43 girls in the Kaukauna Fastpitch program. This past year, over 160 young athletes tried out. Watching that growth and seeing the enthusiasm for the sport thrive in our community has been incredibly rewarding. I’m proud to have helped steward the program from a small but passionate group to one that is now widely recognized as the premier softball program in the state of Wisconsin.
With the support of dedicated volunteers and families, we’ve overcome budget deficits, built a solid financial foundation, and recently contributed $100,000 in lighting upgrades for the district. Over the years, I’ve personally invested time and energy into maintaining and improving the facilities—shingling roofs, staining dugouts, and ensuring the fields were always game-ready and representative of the pride we take in our program.
On the field, we’ve celebrated six WIAA Division 1 State Championships, 14 FVA Conference Titles, and 108 consecutive wins—marking the longest winning streak in Wisconsin high school sports history, and the second-longest in the nation. I’ve had the privilege of coaching over 530 wins, with a career winning percentage of 88%, 39 All-State players, 78 First Team All-Conference players, and 6 Gatorade Players of the Year. More important than the accolades are the relationships built and the lives impacted—those are the true rewards of coaching.
I remain deeply committed to the success of Kaukauna Fastpitch and will continue to support the program and its players in any way I can—albeit from a different seat.
Thank you again for the opportunity to lead, to grow, and to contribute. It has been a truly meaningful chapter of my life.
With Respect & Appreciation,
Tim Roehrig”

“To Whom It May Concern,
After 17 incredible seasons, I am writing to formally resign from my position as Assistant Varsity Softball Coach at Kaukauna High School.
This decision does not come easily, as the softball program has been a central part of my life for nearly two decades. It has been an absolute honor to coach alongside someone I consider not just a colleague, but a true friend and brother. Together, we’ve shared countless memories, hard-fought victories, and most importantly, the privilege of helping young athletes grow both on and off the field.
My passion for the game, commitment to excellence, and pride in this program have always driven me to give everything I have. I’ve poured my heart into this team with the goal of building not only champions on the scoreboard, but strong, confident young women ready to take on life’s challenges. Watching these athletes develop has been the most rewarding part of this journey.
To the players, thank you for your hard work, your heart, and your belief in the process. To the families, thank you for your trust and support. And to my coaching partner—thank you for your loyalty, your friendship, and for standing shoulder to shoulder with me through it all.
Kaukauna Softball will always hold a special place in my heart. While I’m stepping away from the dugout, I will forever be one of your biggest fans.
With Gratitude,
Bill Huss”
