KAUKAUNA — The City of Kaukauna announced this week that work will begin on the Wisconsin Avenue seawall project.

The project is along the Fox River in downtown Kaukauna below Friends and Neighbors Park. The park, noted for its playful statues of adults and children, is on the south side of the Wisconsin Avenue in the heart of the uptown business district.

It replaces a failing fishing dock along the river the with a 100-foot accessible seawall.

Anticipated to be complete in the fall, the seawall project is intended to promote boating and fishing along the Fox River and to provide boaters access to downtown area businesses.

Linked projects include the repair of small retaining walls, re-paving of adjacent trails and installation of native landscaping.

The project was funded by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Recreational Boating Facilities Grant, a David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund Grant through the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region and the City of Kaukauna Parks Fund.
