KAUKAUNA — The Kaukauna Recreation Department is hosting “Reflections of Vietnam” a traveling display of the largest collection of Vietnam War memorabilia in the Midwest.
The free exhibit will be on open to the public from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 15 in the community room of the Streets, Parks and Recreation, or SPAR building, 207 Reaume Ave., Kaukauna.
This is a nationally acclaimed educational program presented by the men and women of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 351 Appleton.
Artifacts in this traveling exhibit include weapons, military hardware and personal equipment from US, Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Forces.
The exhibit is approximately 90 feet long and mounted in wooden lockers.
Visitors are encouraged to walk the length of the display stopping periodically to talk with chapter members who will answer questions and share personal stories of their time during the war.
The program has been running for six years and has completed more than a hundred successful “program missions.”
Chapter members speak to fifteen to twenty high schools a year, as well as universities and technical colleges. It is a program known throughout the state and beyond.
Prior to the public open house, members of the XYZ Group, a social group for adults, 55 and better, will have a program featuring the men and women of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Appleton Chapter 351.
To participate in the XYZ Group portion, people need to pre-register with the Kaukauna Recreation Department (KRD) (207 Reaume Ave, 766-6335). Participants can choose to contribute to the noon potluck or pay a fee of $5.
