Van Kauwenberg is having a stellar senior season, leading the Ghosts to a 7-2 record overall, which is tied at the top of the Fox Valley Association Conference.
Just last month, he earned the Rick Majerus MVP plaque after scoring 33 points in the Ghosts win over Homestead at the 2024 Rick Majerus WBY Shootout at Concordia University, Mequon.
Van Kauwenberg has committed to UW Green Bay next year where he will reunite with Phoenix assistant coach Jordan McCabe, a former Kaukauna basketball standout who led the Ghosts to state titles in 2016 and 2018.
McCabe returns to the KHS gym next week where he will be celebrated during a pregame ceremony Jan. 14, 2025 before the Ghosts’ game against rival Kimberly,
Van Kauwenberg isn’t the only Ghost to reach the 1,000 point career mark this season.
Senior Addison Baumgart of the girls’ team scored her 1,000th career point Dec. 9 in a victory over Mosinee.
Baumgart is the sixth player in girls’ program history to reach the milestone, joining an elite group that includes Chloe Van Zeeland (1,369 points), Alexa Kinas (1,249), Sara Biese (1,126), Graysin Hartjes (1,099), and Maria Schneider (1,027).
The boys team is back on the road Friday for a conference game at conference co-leader Appleton North.
