KAUKAUNA — Kaukauna basketball standout Keegan VanKauwenberg has committed to Division 1 UW-Green Bay.
The senior made the announcement Monday on social media.
VanKauwenberg, a 6′ 4″ shooting guard, was named first-team all-conference in the Fox Valley Association as a junior, averaging 18.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists. He made 86-of-187 tries from three-point range for a 46-percent average.
He is the latest connection in the Kaukauna to Green Bay pipeline.
In April, former Ghost Jordan McCabe joined the Phoenix as an assistant coach.
McCabe, a 2018 graduate of Kaukauna High School, spent last season as an assistant coach at West Virginia. McCabe was on the Mountaineer’s men’s basketball team from 2019-21.
McCabe led the Kaukauna to state basketball titles in 2016 and 2018 and was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin his senior year.
In May, UW-Green Bay hired Doug Gottlieb, a well-known national college basketball analyst, as head coach to lead the program.
Gottlieb’s move from the broadcast booth to the sidelines is an unusual one, as most former analysts transition to coaching at the high school or assistant college level.
However, Gottlieb has expressed his excitement for the challenge and believes his experience as an analyst will give him a unique perspective as a head coach.
With his knowledge of the game and his ability to connect with players, he could have a significant impact on the UW-Green Bay program.
