GRAND CHUTE — A motorcyclist suffered significant injuries Saturday night in a crash on W. College Avenue, according to the Grand Chute Police Department.
In a news release, Grand Chute police say an officer was responding about 10:15 p.m. Saturday to a report of a structure fire on Green Meadow Drive.
The officer began their response to the call from the intersection of N. McCarthy Road and W. Greenville Drive.
The officer was operating a fully marked police vehicle with emergency lights, siren, and an in-car video camera activated for the duration of the response, according to the news release.
During the officer’s response to the structure fire call, they saw a motorcycle traveling eastbound on W. College Avenue near I-41.
The motorcyclist rapidly accelerated away from the location at a high rate of speed, according to police.
As the officer continued their response to the structure fire call, they saw the motorcycle crash into another vehicle at the intersection of W. College Avenue and S. Bluemound Drive.
The officer discontinued their response to the structure fire and immediately began rendering aid to those involved in the crash, according to police.
The operator of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with significant injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting the accident investigation and reconstruction.
The Grand Chute Police Department assisted the Wisconsin State Patrol along with the Appleton Police Department, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Chute Fire Department, Appleton Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance.
