APPLETON — A 13-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday night after being hit by a car while crossing an Appleton street.
The incident happened at the intersection of Badger Ave. and Wisconsin Ave. shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.
In a Thursday evening news release, Appleton police said their preliminary investigation revealed that a 13-year-old girl was attempting to walk across the intersection from north to south against the traffic signal.
A vehicle that was traveling east on Wisconsin Ave. had a green traffic light and proceeded through the intersection, striking the girl who was attempting to cross.
The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the Appleton Police Department’s investigation into this incident.
The 13-year-old female who was struck remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
“Our thoughts remain with the female that was struck, and her family, during this difficult time,” police said in their news release.
