KAUKAUNA — After finishing the 2022 season one game away from qualifying for the WIAA Division 2 state championship game, expectations are high for the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts football team.

The Ghosts open the season at home Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Bank of Kaukauna Stadium against Ashwaubenon High School.

Among the top returning players are Mitch Verstegen, an Indiana University commit and safety Carson Van Dinter, an Iowa State commit and QB Finnley Doriot, named to this year’s Post-Crescent Elite-11 team.

An uncharacteristic five turnovers were too much to overcome on their final game last year as the Kaukauna’ lost 26-7 loss to West De Pere in a Division 2 WIAA Level 4 playoff game at Ashwaubenon.

West De Pere eventually lost 27-10 to Kettle Moraine in the state final.
