KAUKAUNA — Local restauranteur Shaila Martinez, owner of Mena’s Place in Kaukauna, has revealed that she is fighting cervical cancer and the restaurant is temporarily closed.

According to a social media post on the Mena’s Place Facebook page, Martinez said she recently received some devastating health news.

“I got pretty bad news about my health and I’m going to have a surgery this June 23 to remove my uterus to prevent the cancer spreading,” she wrote.

A subsequent TikTok video, (see the video HERE) made by a relative, revealed that Martinez was diagnosed with cervical cancer. In the video, Martinez asks for the community’s support.

Martinez had surgery on June 23 and faces 6 – 8 weeks of recovery from and an uncertain prognosis.
