KAUKAUNA — The Galloping Ghosts girls’ soccer team will hold its annual Kick for a Cure game Tuesday, May 9, 2023 to support a school district educational assistant battling breast cancer.

This year, the team is raising money for Deanna Gierach, who has been an EA with the district for 16 years.

The JV game begins at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. against Appleton East at Kaukauna High School.

The game will feature a penny war, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle.

Gierach is an EA at Park School and transitioned to a position as a one-on-one aide with a vision student. She’s been with this senior class since they were in 4K.

At the beginning of September, she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and had to take time off of school and had surgery in mid- October.

She currently is undergoing five months of chemotherapy treatments.

Gierach says her prognosis is good and after she completes all of her treatments, doctors are saying she can go on to live a “normal” life.
