Bella came to visit the firefighters that assited her when she was struck by a vehicle the other morning.

KAUKAUNA — The girl injured while biking to school last week stopped by the Kaukauna Fire Department today to thank the firefighters that came to her aid.

Identified in the photo posted to the Kaukauna Fire Department Facebook page as Bella, the 7-year-old was biking to Park Community Charter School April  10, 2017, with her siblings when she was struck by a car.

Paramedics and Kaukauna Police provided assistance and said she was conscious and alert at the scene, according to school officials.

She was taken to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Neenah for her injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement from the Kaukauna Area School District in the Post-Crescent. Her siblings were not injured.

The Kaukauna Area School District currently is working with the East Central Wisconsin Regional Safe Routes to School Program, as well as the City of Kaukauna and the Kaukauna police and fire department to increase the safety of students walking or bicycling to school.

The project has been underway since before the beginning of the school year.

The latest part of the initiative is a family survey, which is due Friday, April 21, 2017.
