KAUKAUNA — Jasbirpal Singh, 64, who has operated the Lighthouse Corner convenience store at 1005 Crooks Ave. since 1992, is accused of stealing more than $100,000 in sales tax that he collected.

Prosecutors filed a criminal complaint on June 22, 2016 in Outagamie Circuit Court against Singh, also known as Jesse Singh. He has been released on a $25,000 signature bond and has been ordered to appear for a Aug. 26, 2016 for a preliminary hearing, according to online court records.

The Appleton Post Crescent reports that from 2011 to 2014 Singh collected and failed to remit at least $109,952 in sales tax from the operation of the store, according to the criminal complaint.

Special Agent Lisa Kennedy of the Office of Criminal Investigation with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue said Singh kept the tax money by filing false sales tax returns that underreported the actual taxable sales, according to the complaint.
