“Kaukauna Community Group has grown to more than 9,000 followerswith nearly 2,000 of them are from Appleton,” said Kaukauna Community News co-founder Dan Plutchak. “This gives our Appleton neighbors an online community all their own.”

There currently are several active Appleton Facebook groups — Appleton Wi Community events, You know your grew up in Appleton and Fox Cities Scanner — but none devoted to news of the community in Appleton.

The new Appleton group hopes to grow into a home for the kind of neighborly sharing that’s made the Kaukauna group successful.

For example, the most engaging posts recently are from a woman whose packages delivered to the wrong address were returned by a local business owner, a photo of the Grignon Mansion from the Christmas parade and advice on a student struggling in school.

Kaukauna’s group also is a forum for community leaders, with they mayor, teachers and others regulary jumping in to answer residents’ questions.

Plutchak says he hopes Appleton’s group will provide the same forum.
