MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced that everyone age 16 and older in Wisconsin will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine beginning next week.
The new date of April 5 is about a month earlier than the the May 1 eligibility target announced by President Joe Biden.
“Wisconsin leads the nation in getting available shots in arms, and today we’re announcing everyone 16 and older will be eligible to receive a #COVID19 vaccine starting next week,” Evers said in a tweet.
Evers said Wisconsin continues to be a national leader in getting its residents vaccinated.
In Wisconsin, about 2.7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
About 1 million Wisconsinites are fully vaccinated and roughly half of everyone age 65 and older have been fully vaccinated.
