WEST ALLIS — Kaukauna’s Laythan Hurst ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and the Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts’ football team never looked back in a 41-7 season-opening win over Nathan Hale High School in West Allis.
Quarterback Ryan Carrel and running back Muhammad Jobe each had two running touchdowns in the first half.
Kicker Ryan Mayer went 5-for-5 in PATs to run the score to 35-0 at the half.
Carrel ran in one more touchdown in the second half and Hale scored a desperation touchdown for a final 41-7 score.
The Ghosts’ season gets significantly more difficult next week.
Kaukauna is once again on the road, taking on WIAA Division 2 runner-up Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay.
The Tritons feature Badger recruit, running back Kingston Allen, who leads a punishing ground game.
The season features only three home games and six away games.
