APPLETON — The National Weather Service in Green Bay reported a radar confirmed tornado about 12:40 p.m. Monday, causing widespread damage from Menasha through Appleton.
The City of Appleton and neighboring municipalities are currently responding to many storm related calls.
Much of Prospect Avenue west of Xavier High School in Appleton is currently impassable.
Traffic is heavily backed up, including throughout the business park between Prospect Avenue and Spencer Street.
Traffic signals west of Hwy 441 on Calumet Street are currently out.
Southbound Highway 441 from Oneida Street is currently closed due to storm damage. Traffic is being diverted onto Oneida Street. Southbound Oneida Street from Calumet Street is also significantly backed up because of this closure.
Appleton police are aware of several downed trees and large tree limbs throughout the city.
Police are asking people to not drive around barricades or enter areas closed by emergency personnel. Limit non-emergency travel so first responders and utility crews can quickly and safely access impacted areas. Call 911 only for emergencies.
In Grand Chute, areas with significant impacts include:
• S. Bluemound Dr.
• W. Prospect Ave.
• W. Spencer St.
• W. Lawrence St.
• S. Lynndale Dr.
• And many surrounding roadways.
The Menasha Police Department, along with the Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue Department and the Department of Public Works, are currently rpesponding to areas impacted by severe weather.
Emergency responders are currently assessing damage, addressing hazards and responding to calls for service.
Residents are asked to:
- Stay away from affected areas unless absolutely necessary.
- Avoid downed power lines and treat all utility lines as energized.
- Do not drive around barricades or enter areas closed by emergency personnel.
- Limit non-emergency travel to allow first responders and utility crews access to impacted areas.
Call 911 for emergencies. Non-emergency issues should be reported through the appropriate non-emergency channels.
