VANDENBROEK — A pickup truck carrying 80 calves became fully engulfed in flames Friday morning, but the calves were uninjured and tended to by first responders.

According to a news release, Vandenbroek Kaukauna Fire was called out at 10:38 a.m. to the area of Highway 96, east of Highway JJ, for a reported vehicle fire involving a pickup truck with a cattle trailer attached.

Assistant Chief Brian George arrived first and found the pickup fully engulfed, with the attached trailer loaded with 80 calves.

Wrightstown Fire Department was also dispatched to assist.

Vandenbroek Kaukauna Fire deployed two hose lines to extinguish the fire.

During firefighting efforts, several calves were removed from the trailer, and a ventilation fan was used to clear smoke and help keep the animals cool.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Deputies, and State Troopers worked together to secure and contain the cattle until a replacement truck and trailer arrived.

Vandenbroek Kaukauna Fire cleared the scene at 1:04 p.m.
