APPLETON – Outagamie County will celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of its new dog park, Outagamie County’s Bark & Recreation, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Community members are invited to attend the event, which will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, remarks, festivities, and a food truck. Residents are encouraged to bring their dogs and spend the morning enjoying the county’s newest recreational amenity, according to a news release.

The name Barks & Recreation was selected following strong public participation in the naming process.

The new dog park represents the culmination of years of planning that began in 2018, when Outagamie County Recycling and Solid Waste completed permitting for its next landfill expansion.

Because the county’s existing dog park is located within the footprint of that future expansion, county officials evaluated several county-owned properties before selecting the new site near Brewster Village.

The park was designed to be a welcoming and inclusive space for dogs and their owners and includes:

  • Dedicated off-leash areas for small and large dogs
  • An agility training area
  • ADA-accessible amenities
  • An all-seasons restroom
  • Shade structures
  • A trail extension connecting to the Old Stone Bridge Trail

The project moved quickly from concept to completion following the groundbreaking held July 17, and
the county is now preparing to welcome the public to the finished park following Memorial Day
weekend.

For residents and visitors alike, Barks & Recreation offers a new place to gather, exercise, and enjoy the
outdoors with their pets.
