LITTLE CHUTE — A dozen lucky cats have a new lease on life after being rescued from an abandoned car in Little Chute by four quick-thinking Outagamie County Highway workers.

According to a social media post from County Executive Tom Nelson, four Outagamie County highway workers earlier this week rescued the 12 cats trapped in the abandoned car off I-41 at County Highway N in Little Chute.

“Where others looked the other way, crossed to the other side of the road or simply didn’t bother to stop, these fine folks took notice and acted — fast,” Nelson wrote.

With temperatures pushing 90 and even warmer in sealed-up cars, the highway workers sprang into action, opened up the car, alerted the authorities and spirited the cats to Fox Valley Humane Association.

Many already have been adopted, but some may still be available. So stop by the Humane Association (CR BB — next to Appleton International Airport) or call ahead and ask for the “Outagamie County highway cats.”
