KAUKAUNA — A pregnant 27-year-old woman, her husband and their 1-year-old child were transported to a hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries following a crash with a suspected drunken driver going the wrong way on I-41.

According to a news release from the Kaukauna Police Department, law enforcement in Outagamie County were notified about midnight last night of a wrong-way driver on highway 441 that got onto Interstate 41 heading north bound in the south bound lanes.

While Kaukauna officers were on their way to the interstate, the suspect vehicle crashed into a south bound vehicle just south of Highway 55 in Kaukauna. The suspect vehicle was a smaller sedan and the other vehicle was an SUV.

Interstate 41 south bound was shut down and during the investigation officers found the wrong-way driver, a 25-year-old man, was possibly under the influence of alcohol.

He was transported to a hospital by Kaukauna Ambulance for what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

He was released from the hospital and booked into Outagamie County Jail for operating while intoxicated causing injury.

The driver of the other vehicle, a pregnant 27-year-old woman, her husband, and their 1-year-old child, were also transported to a hospital also with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

Troopers and Inspectors with the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash portion of the incident and documented the scene.

Officers from Fox Valley Metro Police and Appleton Police and Deputies from Outagamie Sheriff assisted at the scene and with traffic control.

Police are thanking all of the witnesses who provided statements during the investigation. The lanes on Interstate 41 were fully open again at about 7:40 a.m. this morning.
