In recent years, Appleton police say they have seen a rise in the wild turkey population in the Appleton Memorial Park neighborhood, leading to several public safety concerns.

These turkeys have been spotted in busy intersections, pecking at vehicles, running into cyclists and motorcyclists and causing traffic congestion.

“While we all appreciate wildlife, the safety of our community is a priority,” police wrote Saturday in a social media post.

To help prevent further issues, police are asking residents to avoid feeding wild turkeys.

Appleton city ordinance prohibits feeding wild animals, as it encourages them to establish a presence in urban areas.
