APPLETON — A motorized bike rider was seriously injured Saturday evening after fleeing from police and and being hit by a vehicle.
According to a news release, an Appleton officer stopped a group about 8:30 p.m. Saturday for riding motorized bicycles recklessly in traffic near the intersection of East College Avenue at Appleton Street.
While officers interviewed and attempted to identify the group, one of them fled on their motorized bicycle and into traffic, where they were struck by a passing vehicle.
EMTs responded to the scene and transported the bike rider to a local hospital, where they are being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperating with investigators.
At this time, there is no indication that impairment or speed were a factor in the crash.
