KAUKAUNA — As bald eagles begin their fall migration, the 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna says now is a great time to view these majestic birds.

“We were thrilled to see the trees along the river dotted with eagles today,” wrote 1000 Islands today in a Facebook post. “If you want to see these majestic birds, now’s the perfect time as they migrate.”

The map below shows the preferred viewing sites at 1000 Islands.

Adults begin fall migration when lakes and rivers freeze, usually migrating coastward or to open water.

They return to breeding grounds when weather and food permit, usually January–March, according to BirdLife International and Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
