KAUKAUNA — Last week, work began on a new six-court pickleball complex at LaFollette Park in Kaukauna.

The courts are expected to open in late Spring of 2025, according to Mayor Tony Penterman.

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.

Players hit a perforated plastic ball over a net using paddles similar to those used in ping-pong.

The game is played on a smaller court than tennis, and the rules are relatively simple.

Pickleball is known for its fast-paced nature, social atmosphere, and the ability to be enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels.

The pickleball courts will be the latest addition to the park following the June dedication of a new playground.

The playground is equipped with accessibility features including a universal swing and lower transfer platforms for the user to ease into each play structure, according to the city.

The ground surface is also rubberized to allow mobility devices to access the equipment.
