OSHKOSH — Oshkosh police are crediting the prompt actions of the three citizens who intervened Friday to help an armed guard who had been attacked by a suspected robber at an ATM.

According to a news release, officers responded about 1 p.m. to a report of a man who had just attempted a robbery on 20th Avenue and was now being held at gun point by an armed guard.

Police say they were told the suspect had attempted to disarm the guard who was servicing an ATM machine.

As the suspect was physically trying wrestle the gun from the guard’s holster, three citizens intervened by holding the suspect down and preventing the suspect from removing the gun from the holster, according to police.

The suspect was then held at gunpoint until officers arrived on scene.

When officers arrived at the scene, they took the suspect into custody at 1:07 p.m. for charges that could include attempted homicide, attempted robbery and terroristic threats.

The suspect is described as a 22 year old male from Oshkosh who had recently been staying in his vehicle in the parking lot of that business.
