News release from the Appleton Police Department

APPLETON — The Appleton Police Department has been made aware of a “cruising event” planned for our downtown corridor on Saturday evening.

College Ave traffic will be rerouted and detoured at the first sign of loud/modified vehicles, reckless driving, excessive speed, and general disorderly behavior.

Staffing has been adjusted to address this behavior along with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The increased traffic congestion we have seen in past events like this has impacted the ability for traffic to flow smoothly lengthening response times for first responders creating public safety issues.

In addition to the potential impact to first responders, we are concerned for our neighbors living downtown and businesses operating within the downtown corridor. We have been communicating with stakeholders in downtown and will work with them to ensure the downtown remains safe and accessible for all.
