APPLETON — Appleton police say a suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation after threatening passersby with a knife.
Police were called shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday after receiving multiple reports of a person on a bicycle in the area of N. Richmond Street and W. Franklin Street displaying an edged weapon and threatening passersby.
Several officers responded, locating the person inside a nearby business.
When police made contact, the suspect reached toward their waistband but was quickly subdued by officers and arrested, according to a police news release.
An edged weapon as described by witnesses was located on the suspect and was secured.
Emergency medical services were summoned due to the individual’s erratic behavior and attempts to self-harm while in custody.
The individual was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and will be referred to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s Office on several criminal charges stemming from this incident.
