APPLETON – All residents escaped safely, but are now being helped by the Red Cross after an early morning fire on Appleton’s northeast side.

Firefighters say no working smoke alarms were found in the home, and the estimated damage is about $150,000.

The Appleton Fire Department was called out about 4 a.m. to a structure fire in the 600 Block of East Francis St. in Appleton, according to a news release.

The initial call indicated a fire at the rear of the home, and when firefighters arrived, they found the exterior rear of the structure fully engulfed with fire extending into both the first and second floors.

Fire companies made simultaneous attacks on the interior and exterior fires and aggressively searched the home for occupants.

Companies brought the fire under control within 45 minutes.

Firefighters are working to determine a cause.

The Appleton Fire Department was assisted by WE Energies, and the Appleton Police Department.
