KAUKAUNA — Two state representatives from Alabama and one from Wisconsin will visit Park Community Charter School May 15 to learn more about the school’s use of Conscious Discipline.
Amy Brakenhoff, Alabama’s Conscious Discipline State Implementation Administrator Birth to 8, and Joy Winchester, the State of Alabama Director of Office of Early Childhood and Professional Support will be visiting Park School for the day.
They are leading the effort for state-wide Conscious Discipline Implementation in Alabama for students birth to age 8. State Representative Joy Goeben will also be joining them as she has expressed interest in learning more about the program and Park School.
Park Community Charter School was recommended by the Conscious Discipline national office in Orlando as a place to see school-wide implementation in action.
Park began using Conscious Discipline in 2013 as the center piece of its behavior management program.
Conscious Discipline is a brain based program that teaches students skills of self-regulation that they can use when faced with stressful situations. The program also builds a strong sense of family at school, according to the school’s website.
“There is a sense that we are a family. We see evidence in classrooms, hallways and on the playground of strong connections between students and their peers, and between students and staff,” Principal Ken Kortens was quoted as saying.
