KAUKAUNA — An hours-long standoff in Kaukauna ended with the arrest of a man believed to be armed and dangerous.

Kaukauna police say they made contact about 3 a.m. with what they describe as a suspicious male in the 1400 block of Crooks Ave.

Officers learned that the 42-year-old suspect had a felony warrant for his arrest, according to a news release.

While officers were talking to the man, they say he became uncooperative and fled the scene in his vehicle.

Officers were able to use tire deflation devices on the vehicle as he fled the scene.

The suspect led officers on a short pursuit that ended when the suspect’s vehicle getting hung up in the median on County Highway CE near Fieldcrest Drive.

That’s when he refused to follow commands of the officers on scene, police say.

With information gathered on the scene, officers believed the suspect to be armed and dangerous.

The Outagamie County Emergency Response Team responded and assisted with negotiations with the suspect.

After several hours of negotiations, the suspect fled the vehicle, police say.

Police say they used what they described as “less lethal force” to take the man into custody.

Less-lethal force includes tactics and weapons that are neither likely nor intended to cause death or serious injury such as physical tactics, batons, chemical spray and kinetic impact munitions such as rubber bullets.

In order to bring this incident to a safe resolution, The Kaukauna Police Department received help from the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Appleton Police Department.
