APPLETON — Appleton police say a call about an active threat Tuesday at Xavier High School in Appleton turned up no safety concerns.

The incident began with a routine fire drill at the high school about 11:30 a.m.

But shortly after the drill began, the Outagamie County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call from the school indicating that there was an active threat in the school, according to a news release from the Appleton Police Department.

Appleton Fire Department units and several Appleton Police Department officers immediately responded and began clearing the building within minutes.

No threat was located.

While this effort was being coordinated, some students remained in the building and sheltered in place while others vacated common areas as police secured the school.

Police remained on scene Tuesday afternoon working in conjunction with Xavier High School administration regarding any additional follow-through considerations needed.

This incident is still being actively investigated, but no safety concerns have been identified, police say.
