KAUKAUNA — Rep. Mike Gallagher introduced a bill that would rename the U.S. Post Office in Kaukauna in honor of fallen Army Sgt. Nickolas Mueller.

The Post Office, located at 120 Doty Street in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, would be renamed the “Sgt. Nickolas Mueller Post Office Building,” and will serve as a way to honor Sergeant Mueller’s ultimate sacrifice.

“Nick is a hero in every sense of the word. Through three combat tours and over 400 combat flight hours, Nick went above and beyond the call of duty before making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. Northeast Wisconsin is grateful to both him and his family, and I hope this post office will serve as a small way to forever commemorate his heroism and sacrifice,” Gallagher wrote in a news release

Mueller was a native of Little Chute and served five years in the Army before paying the ultimate sacrifice in a Chinook helicopter crash on Oct. 26, 2009 in the Badghis Province of Northwestern Afghanistan.

Mueller enlisted in the Army as a Medium Helicopter Repairer in June 2004. After Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea. In 2007, he completed Green Platoon and joined 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, as a Flight Engineer.

Sergeant Mueller was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death, and is survived by his parents, Larry and Sharon and his brother, John.
